E-Mail Options

There are a number of ways to reduce spam. We wanted to move to a new mail system in November, but did not due to higher priority items. We’re still planning to make the move in 2009.

In the meantime, you can request to be moved to Google Apps — it’s no cost and your e-mail will still show up like “user@yourdomain.com”. You’ll get the added benefit of the best anti-virus and anti-spam filtering, web mail, etc…The Apps GMail system does work with Outlook and other common mail programs. We use this system for our mail and its wonderful.

If you’d like to switch to Google Apps, send a request to support@webmedley.com to let us know.

If you only check mail on the web and use our IMail server, there’s nothing else you can do to reduce the risk of spam. However, if you check mail using a desktop program like Outlook, then you can add a program that will check your mail as it arrives and remove the spam. There are a number of programs that do this.

We use AVG’s Internet Security (http://www.avg.com/product-avg-internet-security?fprd=ais.12m). Lots of people use their free version.

Norton, McAfee, and others offer programs to integrate with common mail programs. Assuming your anti-virus program is up to date, you may already be protected.

We will post other updates to the blog when we are going to migrate the mail server. In the meantime, feel free to send us a request to change to Google Apps or check out a desktop program. Call or e-mail with any requests for help.
