Foursquare vs. pleaserobme.com – What do you think?

Posted In iPhone, Social Media March 6th, 2010 by Bill Dotson Tags: , , ,

We’ve talked about the iPhone and GPS apps before. The technology exists and you know we’re experienced with it (i.e. FanStream).

During the past few months, apps like FourSquare and Gowalla have become very popular. These applications allow you to share your location with friends. As the services have become more popular, companies (esp. restaurants) are rewarding people who “check in” at their location.

BTW: If you use FourSquare, there’s a really cool site, http://www.checkoutcheckins.com/, that grabs all your check-ins and plots them on a Google Map.

While sharing all of this info might seem cool to some, to others it seems like a major privacy risk.

As a public service of sorts, the web site PleaseRobMe.com launched showing the world just who is not home. The site is getting a lot of press – which is probably a good thing.

What do you think about these services/apps?
